On April 10, 2017, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual assault that had occurred in Clayton County. During the investigation, it was determined that 26 year old Jerry Barnhill of Earlville sexually abused a minor on several occasions from October 2016 through March 2017. On April 22, 2017 Clayton County Investigator’s charged and arrested Barnhill for Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree (Class “C” Felony). Barnhill remains in the Clayton County Jail on $20,000 bond.

On April 22, 2017, Clayton County Deputies arrested 50 year old Darrill Hall of Postville on a Clayton County Warrant for Failure to Appear. Hall was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was held on $5,000 cash bond.

On April 23, 2017 at 11:07 AM, Clayton County Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Crystal Road. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Dustin Wegmann of Strawberry Point was operating a 2010 Toyota RAV 4, when he lost control, entered the ditch and struck a tree and a fence causing $10,000 damage. No injuries were reported. Wegmann was cited for failure to maintain control.

On April 24, 2017, 44 year old Michael Werges of Marquette turned himself into the Clayton County Jail on a Clayton County Warrant for Failure to Appear. Werges posted a $200 cash bond and was released from custody.

On April 25, 2017 at 7:10 PM, Clayton County Deputies were dispatched to a one vehicle accident on Crystal Road. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Frank Gibbs of Strawberry Point was operating a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup pulling a trailer with a skid loader when he lost control. The vehicle entered the ditch and overturned causing $4,000 damage. Gibbs was transported to Regional Medical Center in Manchester by Strawberry Point Ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Strawberry Point Fire and Ambulance.

On April 28, 2017 at 1:34 PM, Clayton County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Bridge Street in Elkader. Upon further investigation, Deputies came into contact with 34 year old Luke Mason of Elkader. Upon further investigation, Mason was arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was charged with Driving While Revoked, Driving While Suspended, Operation without Registration, and No Insurance. Mason was held in the Clayton County Jail pending an appearance in Magistrate Court. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Elkader Police Department.

On April 29, 2017 at 11:16 PM, Clayton County Deputies were dispatched to a driving complaint on Highway 13 near Elkader. Deputies located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Upon further investigation, a Drug Recognition Expert with the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office conducted an evaluation on the driver, 45 year old Shawn Burrus of LaCrosse. Upon further investigation, Deputies arrested Burrus for Operating While Intoxicated-Drugged. Burrus was transported to the Clayton County Jail pending an appearance in court.

On May 4, 2017 at 10:07 AM, Clayton County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 13 and Forest Road. Deputies came into contact with 34 year old Justin Gallmeyer of Oelwein. Upon further investigation Deputies arrested Gallmeyer for Driving While Revoked. Gallmeyer was transported ot the Clayton County Jail where he was held pending an appearance in court.

On May 6, 2017 at 6:07 AM, Clayton County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Main Street in Garnavillo. Deputies came into contact with 19 year old Collin Cota of Harpers Ferry. Upon further investigation, Deputies arrested Cota for Driving While Revoked. Cota was transported to the Clayton County Jail pending an appearance in cou

On May 8, 2017, Clayton County Deputies arrested 27 year old Spencer Hocking of Dubuque on a Clayton County Warrant for Failure to Appear. Hocking was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was held on $500 cash bond.

On May 9, 2017, 56 year old Debra Kepler of Anamosa turned herself in to the Clayton County Jail for charges of Operating While Intoxicated- drugged stemming from a traffic stop conducted on March 27, 2017. During the stop, a Drug Recognition Expert conducted an evaluation on Kepler where she was believed be to operating a motor vehicle under the influence of methamphetamines. Kepler was held in the Clayton County Jail pending an appearance in court.

On May 10, 2017, Clayton County Deputies took custody of 39 year old Clay Schrage of Parkersburg from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on a Clayton County Warrant for Theft 4th. Schrage was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he is being held on $500 cash bond.
