On February 6, 2019, Clayton County Deputies charged 46 year old Michael Werges of Marquette with conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony, and 37 year old Philip Reed of Waterville with Burglary 3rd degree stemming from a Burglary Investigation that occurred in the Spring of 2017. Werges will appear in court at a later date. Reed currently has an active arrest warrant as has not been located. 

 

On February 13, 2019 at 6:02am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Highway 18 near Gunder Road. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Keith Wherry of Cresco was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado when he lost control, entered the ditch and overturned causing $15,000 damage. No injuries were reported. 

 

On February 14, 2019 at 4:49pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Gunder Road near 220th Street. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Travis Scherf of St. Olaf was operating a 2003 Chevrolet Impala southbound on Gunder Road when he lost control, entered the ditch and overturned causing $4,000 damage. No injuries were reported. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Elkader Fire Department and Ambulance Service. 

 

On February 14, 2019 at 6:50pm, Clayton County Deputies responded to a car vs deer accident on Osterdock Road. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Dennis Sargent of Colesburg was operating a 2010 Subaru Outback when he struck a deer causing $2,000 damage. No injuries were reported.

 

On February 17, 2019 at 12:40am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Highway 13 near Belgian Road. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Debbie Schroeder of Monona was operating a 2012 Toyota Prius when she lost control due to road conditions. Her vehicle entered the ditch and overturned causing $8,000 damage. Schroeder was transported to MercyOne Medical Center in Elkader for treatment of minor injuries. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Strawberry Point Fire and Ambulance and the Strawberry Point Police Department.

 

On February 17, 2019 at 9:14pm, Clayton County Deputies were dispatched to 30235 Garber Road for a disturbance. While responding, the caller informed dispatch that the other party had left the residence in a vehicle. Deputies later located the subject. Upon further investigation, 29 year old Andrew Schroeder was arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was charged with Operating While Intoxicated-2nd Offense, and Domestic Abuse Assault.

 

On February 20, 2019, Clayton County Deputies arrested 22 year old Shaun Niehaus of North Buena Vista on a Clayton County Warrant for Possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine. Niehaus was transported to the Clayton County Jail.

 

On February 20, 2019, Clayton County Deputies arrested 32 year old Cindy Smith of Guttenberg on a Clayton County Warrant for Theft 2nd Degree which was filed by the Guttenberg Police Department. Smith was transported to the Clayton County Jail.

 

On February 21, 2019, Clayton County Deputies arrested 47 year old Shirley Edwards of Guttenberg on a Clayton County Warrant for Theft 3rd degree which was filed by the Guttenberg Police Department. Edwards was transported to the Clayton County Jail .

 

On February 21, 2019 at 3:25am, Clayton County Deputies responded to a car vs deer accident on Highway 18 near Spook Cave Rd. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Marcia Arends of Elkader was operating a 2005 Dodge Caravan when she struck a deer causing $8,000 damage. No injuries were reported. 

 

On February 27, 2019, after a several month long narcotics investigation, Clayton County Deputies arrested 71 year old Dennis Zielski of McGregor for three counts of delivery of a controlled substance- marijuana. Zielski was transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was held on $10,000 bond.

 

On March 1, 2019 at 12:33am, Clayton County Deputies were dispatched to a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 56 near Cannon Road. Upon further investigation, 57 year old Daniel Smith of Denver was arrested and transported to the Clayton County Jail where he was charged with open container, failure to maintain control, and interference with official acts.
